Key Differences and Similarities: Omron 7 Series vs 5 Series

Before we present the differences, here’s a few notes about these Omron BP monitors.

One, both of them are classified as “Upper Arm” BPMs. You should know that there are also other models that you wrap around your wrist. The 7 Series and 5 Series are equipped with cuffs that you wrap around the upper part of your arm.

They’re also digital and automatic, so unlike the traditional BP monitor, you don’t have to inflate anything, or use a stethoscope to get a reading. With these Omron devices, all you have to do is to press on a button after securing the cuff in place.

As far as features are concerned, there are other models that are more advanced than these two Omrons. For instance, don’t expect to find Bluetooth Connectivity in either the 7 Series or 5 Series.

Now, let’s take a look at these BPMs’ most notable differences.

Memory

The 7 Series has better memory storage than the 5 Series. It can store up to 120 readings and it can accomodate up to 60 users. In comparison, the 5 Series can store up to 100 readings and accomodate up to 50 users.

Features

Unlike with the 7 Series, you can’t find BP indicator lights with the 5 Series. Conversely, you can’t find a One-Touch Use function with the 7 Series as you do with the 5 Series.

Cuffs: Easy-Wrap ComFit vs Wide Range

The 7 Series comes with a cuff called Easy-Wrap ComFit (or CFX-WR17), and the 5 Series comes with a Wide Range cuff (or CD-WR17). While both of these cuffs fit arms 9 inches to 17 inches in circumference, they are quite different.

As we learned in this video, the Easy-Wrap ComFit cuff can be explained by looking at the cuff into two parts – the “Easy-Wrap” and “Comfit” parts.

Comfit means that the cuff is “pre-formed” to ensure that it snugs into your arms comfortably. Easy-Wrap means the cuff stays in place so that you don’t have to worry about incorrect cuff placement.

On the other hand, the Wide Range cuff (or CD-WR17) is a D-ring contoured cuff that fits arms that has 9 to 17 inches circumference.

When it comes to weight of arm cuffs, the 5 Series weighs a little bit more than the 7 Series.

Weight of Monitor

The Omron 7 Series monitor weighs a bit more than the 5 Series. As can be seen on the chart above, it weighs 385 grams, which is 85 grams more than the 5 Series, which has a weight of 300 grams.
